I came across fieryzard on the site-that-should-not-be-named and was delighted to meet them on Mastodon after I migrated. I then realized they also read Herald Petrel. The thing is, every February I am teaching a course and traditionally put that money into commissioning artwork for my stories. So, this time, I knew I found the perfect fit.
My commission was this: pick your favorite characters from my story (yes, yours, not mine) and imagine a casual scene with them.
I got three drafts to pick from and decided the crew playing a game together in the canteen was my absolute favorite.
So, have Galahad, Raffi, O’Brian, Sinclair, Kartawijaya, Siff, Cox, and Waylon playing a board game. I don’t know the rules of it, yet, since it came from the mind of the artist, but I guess I will come up with them, somewhere in the future. I love how this artwork shows a scene I have never written and yet, I can totally imagine it happening, each character truly acting “in character” the way I can almost hear them:
If you want to look into commissioning the artist, you can do so at https://fieryzard.com/commissions
They also have a blog: https://dotart.blog/fieryzard/ and are working on a webcomic which you can see some illustrations from in this thread: https://mastodon.art/tags/TheGoldenThread
Enjoy!
@admin I really enjoyed working with you and working on this illustration. It was a chance to add a piece of myself to Herald Petrel, while still respecting your vision of the characters. As a fellow creative, I know it means a lot to you! So I'm very happy you're happy with the final product and I do hope you take the challenge to write the rules of the game 😌 and have fun with it! Thank you for the kind words and the shout out. :blobfoxheartcute:
A well deserved shout out, of course!
Thank you, I can only say working with you was a breeze, very professional from A to Z and the outcome speaks for itself!
